2 Companies I really admire and Why

The all grown up Google, from Lego bricks for computer cases to quantum computing, machine learning and prolonging human life - this company has grown alongside the internet and is leading the charge on many fronts of the digital evolution.

Twitch is an online live streaming platform where broadcasters can release and perform their content in real-time with viewer interaction live. I first found out of Twitch several years ago when I wanted to find a hobby that doesn't involve being the viewer but a content creator. Now as a live broadcaster, I consider Twitch as my second hobby, influencing many individuals around the world with my creative content and entertainment.

Blizzard Entertainment is a company I admire due to the combination of its massive success as a company started by a few guys that had to max out their credit cards at times to stay afloat in its early days, to the polish as well as scale of the products they deliver to millions of users.

Let me tell you about ...

I was selected as the Tennis team captain for my highschool team. I was not the best player. I was not a good team leader. I had difficulties making friends. I was far from a popular kid. I volunteered for it as it was not prestigious in our school and no one wanted to deal with the meetings they would have to go to.

Being in Division 1 it was expected of us to perform well as a team and hold our own against schools with quite talented players all over NYC. The coach took the gig as a thing to do while the swimming season was off, he was able to hit the ball and knew the rules.

The first few games we lost every game, short of the matches our star player partook in. He is incredibly talented and at the same time exceptionally cocky and full of himself, having no desire to deal with the rest of the team. With no support from the coach in regards to actual coaching and the majority of the team having only some basic classes (we were Not supposed to be in D1 by a long shot) I took it into my hands to organize drills and reshuffle the team to create better teams for double to increase our chances of winning. Having been raised with the hopes of becoming a decent player as a way to emigrate to the US I had knowledge of how coaches train star players. I applied those drills to our team.

We lost most of the matches, making the playoffs by default as there needed to be an even number of teams and were completely destroyed in the first round. But I made new friends and encouraged them to play despite knowingly going up against much more skilled individuals who would go as far as belittling and insulting my team for their mistakes and bad plays. We had fun. We were a team.

It was important for me to to break out of my shell and share my experience with a group of strangers. I have never done such a thing but it has shown me that it is much easier than one thinks. And as a result I became much more open and sociable as an individual, though still struggling to socialize with complete strangers. I made new friends that I still keep in touch with. I realised the power of a leader with a passion for what they are doing as someone who can inspire and organize even a completely discouraged group.
