COOP Careers closes the social capital gap by recruiting and investing deeply in diverse, low-income, and first-generation grads from the City University of New York, San Francisco State, and other urban public colleges.

Our flagship program is the Digital Apprenticeship. Peer cohorts of 16 motivated, underemployed grads meet nightly for 16 weeks (200 hours) to learn technical skills, build community, and jumpstart careers in digital marketing and data analytics.

Each cohort is led by a team of four captains, “near-peer” COOP alumni who serve as coaches, mentors, and guides on top of busy day jobs at local ad agencies and tech companies. In parallel, COOP helps these same employers meet, interview, and hire more and more diverse candidates.

Since 2014, COOP has run 50 cohorts with over 700 alumni, on our way to 10,000 by 2025. Four-in-five alumni work full-time, earning an average of $45,000 after 12 months (3x pre-program average) and almost $70,000 after three years (2x peer baseline).

Long-term, COOP aims to double lifetime income of alumni—fueling upward mobility and fulfilling our collective promise of higher education.

Opportunity

COOP seeks an energetic Recruiting Manager to lead and execute all recruiting efforts in NYC or SF. The Recruiting Manager is a new and essential role for the organization, and it will have an outsized impact on our community and our mission.

Responsibilities

College Relationships

  • Partner with CUNY colleges to build a pipeline of diverse candidates for the COOP program.

  • Manage and coordinate on campus recruiting logistics, scheduling of information sessions, career fairs, interviews and other targeted events.

  • Create and implement school specific strategies to create brand awareness on campus.

  • Develop deep relationships with career services, academic departments, student groups, and alumni associations.

  • Maintain expenses for recruiting costs

Recruiting

  • Design, execute and manage all aspects of recruiting for the COOP Program.

  • Develop and update recruiting material with CEO to ensure brand guidelines are being met.

  • Work alongside program managers to create a smooth transition process from candidate to enrolled student.

  • Utilize Salesforce to maintain candidate data and reporting.

  • Support rest of COOP team with data management and reporting on an ad hoc basis.

  • Coordinate candidate phone interviews interviews, in person interviews, looking over presentations and assessments.

  • Manage and update application tracking, interview process via Salesforce

  • Extending offers and closing candidates, along with maintaining relationships with candidates throughout the recruiting process

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one cycle served as a Cohort Captain

  • Bachelor degree in related field

  • 1+ years professional work experience; related industry experience preferred

  • Willingness to work outside of defined job description to establish new processes or find a solution to new problems

  • Belief in COOP’s mission and genuine excitement about mentoring and training COOPers

  • Ability to consider multiple perspectives, synthesize information and draw conclusions in service of supporting student improvement

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to conduct training sessions.

  • Ability to manipulate big data sets to create reports and uncover insights

  • Willingness to adapt and contribute to COOP’s feedback-driven culture
