COOP Careers closes the social capital gap by recruiting and investing deeply in diverse, low-income, and first-generation grads from the City University of New York, San Francisco State, and other urban public colleges.
Our flagship program is the Digital Apprenticeship. Peer cohorts of 16 motivated, underemployed grads meet nightly for 16 weeks (200 hours) to learn technical skills, build community, and jumpstart careers in digital marketing and data analytics.
Each cohort is led by a team of four captains, “near-peer” COOP alumni who serve as coaches, mentors, and guides on top of busy day jobs at local ad agencies and tech companies. In parallel, COOP helps these same employers meet, interview, and hire more and more diverse candidates.
Since 2014, COOP has run 50 cohorts with over 700 alumni, on our way to 10,000 by 2025. Four-in-five alumni work full-time, earning an average of $45,000 after 12 months (3x pre-program average) and almost $70,000 after three years (2x peer baseline).
Long-term, COOP aims to double lifetime income of alumni—fueling upward mobility and fulfilling our collective promise of higher education.
COOP Careers is seeking a dynamic Senior Director of Program to manage and provide experienced, impassioned leadership to all aspects of its results-driven and quickly growing flagship program.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Director of Program will have primary national oversight over all program-related activities: long-term planning, fiscal management, program delivery, measurement, and evaluation.
The Senior Director of Program will manage with “head and heart” a team of approximately 8 talented program team members across two sites (NYC & SF), with more to come.
This position will be located at COOP’s National Office in New York City (Times Square) and will require travel to San Francisco (and future markets).
Collaborate closely with the CEO and COO for all organizational programmatic initiatives, ensuring that the strategy aligns with all functional areas and for all COOP markets
Uphold and exemplify COOP organizational values throughout the organization
Provide a strong, authentic leadership presence for COOP team members and all stakeholders
Collaborate with the CEO and COO to set and execute a comprehensive vision for programmatic excellence on all levels, taking our flagship program to higher levels
Define short and long-term “SMART” goals, and regularly track progress toward those goals, resetting strategy as needed
Develop a robust system of metrics, measurement framework and evaluation tools to collect/track data, identify strengths, trends, growth areas, and opportunities for augmentation or needed programmatic elements/enhancements
Create routine reports, documents, slide decks, and other relevant materials to convey vision, progress, timelines and operational plans to all relevant stakeholders
Ensure compliance with all state and local regulations
When necessary, work with outside organizations, consultants, and constituencies to promote and/or enhance COOP’s program, programmatic outcomes and sustainability
Curriculum Development & Innovative Practices
Explore new, innovative program opportunities, develop program ideas, launch pilot projects, and oversee the integration of successful pilots into full-scale programmatic changes
Develop strategic partnerships with peer organizations and industry leaders to borrow best practices and ensure COOP’s curriculum and program model remain relevant within a fast-changing industry
Collaborate with the Director of Partnerships to gauge feedback from partners and relevant stakeholders on COOP curriculum; ensure this feedback is vetted and incorporated into programmatic updates
Regional Program Management and Leadership Development
Provide strategic leadership, coaching, and staff development to all program team members, conducting informal check-ins and formal performance reviews
Develop and lead national and regional programmatic retreats to ensure programmatic excellence; collaborate with experts when necessary
Collaborate with the CEO and COO to develop a national and regional program budget; incorporate best practices for fiscal management

Strong commitment to COOP’s mission and vision; thrives in a fast-paced environment; enjoys teamwork and collaboration
Minimum of 6 years directly related work experience (e.g. non-profit, education, higher education, workforce development sectors highly desired)
Bachelor degree required; master degree preferred
Minimum experience of 5 years managing a team of 5+ individuals; experience managing teams across markets (highly desired); experience developing, coaching, & retaining staff; experience developing and administering staff performance reviews; experience in matrix management
5+ years developing and maintaining a data-driven and results-oriented culture; experience developing and/or working in a feedback-driven culture
Experience managing a program budget
Excellent communication and facilitation skills (written and oral) and ability to represent COOP externally to a range of stakeholders
Close attention to detail; organized; strategic
Proficiency in Google Suite, Salesforce, & Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
Experience building financial projections/models
Track record of building efficiencies and implementing process improvements
Willingness to adapt and contribute to COOP’s feedback-driven culture
Ability to travel regularly to current and future COOP markets
Ability to work extended hours, including weekends
